Journey Day 376 | CDT Day 39
7/20/87
Up from a frozen spot between two creeks, we hike into a cross-country section that is immediately tricky. Slow hiking through deadfall, logged areas, crossing roads, trying to pick up trail after deadfall remains. Take a break after confusing section, through more deadfall down to Hogan Ranger Station, where we cook, drink tea and ready ourselves for roadwalk.
Six miles of dirt road down to Trailcreek Pass, where we bid Ed and Liz Tuckler farewell. After a wait in a roadside stop, catch a ride down to Gibbonsville with a man from Seeley Lake, MT, and his pets. Stop at Broken Arrow Campground. Talk with proprietor, initially gruff, who turns out to be friendly. Norma the Postmistress opens for us, then we go set up camp, back for free laundry, then back to camp for ice cream feast. Crash, check out Debbie's box, letters, including IRS bummer. Good night...
