Journey Day 309 | AT Day 132
8/7/86
Big breakfast with a group of hut hikers at the White Mountain hut in Carter Notch, the last one for northbound hikers. Miss the departure of Bill Denton, a favorite hiking friend who I never see again. I pack and push up the notch, passing Dean Bailey. Keep going until I break down short of the Imp Campsite. I make the shelter as a downpour begins. Dean shows up, I push on down Mt. Moriah, a quick hike despite bothersome groups on the trail. See notes from Leonard Adkins and Bill at the Rattle River shelter, then hike on down to U.S. 2 at Gorham, N.H.
Catch a ride into Gorham with Otto Oleson, a candidate for state representative, and check in at the Berkshire Manor. head to the laundry after a great shower. Eat at the laundromat, watch some TV back at the manor with Armand Turgeon, proprietor, and arrange for him to perform on the player piano in the lobby. Watch more TV with Toronto tourists, crash in a room shared with Ed from Connecticut.
