From Mt. Cube to Mt. Moose.

From tent inside leaky Mt. Cube Shelter, up and out after using the classy privy. Up Mt. Cube in fog, but nice look at Mt. Moose looming on a foggy ridge. Fall several times on slippery hike.

Pass winding hoses and other maple syrup apparatus from the Mt. Cube Farm. Pass Leonard, Jerry and Jack on the road to the Mt. Cube Sugar House. They stayed in a barn. I leave for pancakes. All I’d hoped for and more. Can’t even eat my pie and ice cream. Talk with other visitors, including the governor’s wife. Hike on through a slog, lost once, but keep pushing through private lands. Cross roads, pass the boys at a pond intent on the Glencliff post office. Rest, get mail, phone home, write and read letters, talk with other hikers. Then up to the Jeffers Brook Shelter where we talk too much about the dangers ahead before crashing.
